National Health Promotion Associates (NHPA) is a dynamic, expanding research & development firm located in White Plains, New York (25 miles outside of Manhattan and accessible by MetroNorth Commuter Rail). The company focuses on developing, evaluation, and training for prevention curricula related to substance abuse, violence, and other risk behaviors, particularly those common during adolescence.

INTERNSHIPS

NHPA is seeking bright, highly motivated candidates for several unpaid internship positions. Interns will learn from a team of health professionals who develop, test, and market health promotion, wellness, and prevention programs for children, adolescents, and young adults. Interns may be eligible for college credit through their college or university. Interns will contribute to the development of:

  • Health and wellness programs
  • Social media and social networking tools and strategies
  • Market research and strategy
  • Health web sites, blogs, and newsletters
  • Smartphone and Tablet Applications

Successful applicants will have completed at least two years of college with a major in psychology, health education, communications, journalism, public health, social media technology, or a related area. Education and/or experience with online course development and digital media also a plus.

Research Assistant
Company Description: NHPA is a dynamic and expanding research & development firm located in White Plains, New York (25 miles outside of Manhattan and accessible by MetroNorth Commuter Rail). The company focuses on developing, implementing and evaluating programs, products, and services to prevent substance abuse, violence, and other risk behaviors, particularly those common during adolescence. We also offer training and technical assistance for prevention providers. Our current areas of emphasis focus on the prevention of cyberbullying among early teens, preventing substance use and violence among teens attending youth courts, preventing sexual violence among older teens and college students, and preventing prescription drug abuse among adolescents and young adults.

Job Qualifications: Applicants must have a BA/BS in the social or behavioral sciences, public health, or a related field. Applicants with an MPH may be considered for a Senior Research Assistant position. Exceptional organizational skills required, along with the ability to multi-task and set priorities and manage multiple deadlines. Strong written, verbal communication and follow-up skills required. We are looking for highly motivated individuals who are effective communicators, well-organized, and have strong problem-solving skills. Must be able to work independently. Good computer skills are important, proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required and SPSS is desirable.

Job Description
The Research Assistant will work as an integral part of a small research team and responsibilities will include:
  • Provide assistance with multiple funded research projects
  • Provide assistance with research based-randomized control/field trials including data collection and management
  • Provide assistance to team members including project partners such as schools, worksites, and community agencies
  • Assist with the offsite fieldwork including program observations, meetings, program planning and focus group facilitation
  • Assist with the collection and management of quantitative and qualitative data
  • Assist with focus group management and data analysis
  • Assist in the creation of scientific reports and presentations
  • Contribute to the curriculum and website development team
  • Assist with the preparation of federal research grant applications
  • Assist with the formulation of project reports and manuscripts
