Mercer Council's Programs Help Children Live Drug-free

Using evidence-based techniques and programs, the Mercer Council on Alcoholism and Drug Addiction in NJ introduces children to the idea of a substance-free lifestyle appropriate to all ages it teaches. Mercer Council presents the LifeSkills Training Middle School curriculum in the West Windsor school system as a way of addressing all the harms of drugs, focusing on prescription drug addiction in particular. Greene County to Implement Drug-prevention Curriculum in All Five Districts

In collaboration to develop a countywide prevention program that was in the works for months, all five Greene County, PA school districts will implement the Botvin LifeSkills Training program this coming school year for students in grades 3 to 9. The idea to have one curriculum across the county was derived from a town hall meeting on the heroin epidemic held at Greene County Courthouse in October. From there all five superintendents and some curriculum directors got together for four to six weeks to research and decide on a curriculum. Read more...

Students in Bermuda Complete LifeSkills Training

CADA - Encouraging Responsible Alcohol BehaviorLast month the Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse (CADA) in Bermuda, along with prevention partners, DNDC and PRIDE, handed out certificates to over 50 Bermuda High School students for completing the LifeSkills Training Program.

United Way Says Middle School Program is Changing Attitudes about Drugs

In a region fighting a war against heroin and other drugs, a program in place at area middle schools might offer the best chance for making a stand. Botvin LifeSkills Training started in four area school districts a few years ago, and is now taught in 23 districts across Cambria and Somerset counties in PA. An analysis by the program’s chief local funding agent – United Way of the Laurel Highlands – shows that area young people are retaining the messages that could save their lives. Read more...
